Hobbs, New Mexico

Hobbs is a ranching, farming, and oil-producing town on US 62, 180 and NM 18. It was reported J. B. Hobbs, James Isaac Hobbs, and “Grandma” Hobbs were the initial homesteaders in 1907. Berry Hobbs is said to have been the first postmaster in 1911. The Midwest Oil Companies discovery well No. 1 in November of 1928 established Hobbs as an oil town.
