Eunice, New Mexico

The city of Eunice was founded in June of 1909 when a Post Office was granted to John Ceaser. His son, E. O. Ceaser, was reported to have been the first postmaster. Eunice has had a post office from 1909 to the present.

The name was chosen from a list of potential names prepared by John Ceaser. His eldest daughter, Eunice's name was accepted. The "84 Ranch" was established in the area in 1885. Homesteaders were responsible for the initial groweth of the Eunice area. Oil and gas was discovered in 1929.
